Gifts Outright

"There are nothing but gifts on this poor, poor earth." --Czeslaw Milosz

Gifts Outright is a commonplace book kept by Matthew Miller, a graduate student at Saint Louis University, freelance writer, and Midwesterner. Themes frequently returned to include: art and aesthetics, theology of all sorts, rhetoric, and literature—the realms of the gift, in Lewis Hyde’s terms. (Matt is a little obsessed with gifts.) The title is a riff on Robert Frost.
